Literacy

Literacy – Advanced Know-How of Letters, ICT, Life-Basics

Literacy – For CARES as of its “Education” Policy and Concept; LITERACY is not merely making people to be able to read and write with letters or language scripts alone, but CARES visualize and go beyond it to teach the rural and urban women and girls to be literate on Mobile Phone Usage, Operating Apps, Social Media literacy, Financial Literacy, Opening Bank Accounts & procedures/schemes/savings etc, Information & Sharing medias/ accesses, Online Applications, Using Apps/Mobile/Social Media to get informed/sharing of information, Pension Planning, Health Tips to Mobiles, Rupay/Online payments, Computer/Internet/E-Mails literacy, Credit/Debit Card use, Password Protection, Monthly/Weekly budget planning Literacy, online/mobile redressal/emergency assistance (100,101,104,108, WH numbers, online websites etc.) and such many basics of life.

According to Census 2011, Literacy rate of India is 74.04% and he Male literacy rate is 82.14% and Female literacy rate is 65.46% only; a great disparity and inequality in between. See the situation in the state of Andhra Pradesh, Literacy rate is 67.66 percent as per 2011 population census. Of that, male literacy stands at 75.56 percent while female literacy is at 59.74 percent. In urbanized centers, 62% of women use their own handsets, but in rural regions the figure is under 37%. In Andhra Pradesh only 29.4 women have access to mobile phones!! And ICT is very low even below 10% only for women!!!

CARES presently takes-up its Literacy Initiatives over rural areas and urban slums with only women and girls who are not literate and have no access to learn the life basics. According to Census 2011, Literacy rate of India is 74.04% and he Male literacy rate is 82.14% and Female literacy rate is 65.46% only; a great disparity and inequality in between. Is it because the girls and women have no capacity in comprehension, studies, thinking, mentally and all? Or they are averse to schooling or even literacy, NO Not all! But they are not allowed!! They are being treated that “women are not supposed to study”.
See the situation in the state of Andhra Pradesh, Literacy rate is 67.66 percent as per 2011 population census. Of that, male literacy stands at 75.56 percent while female literacy is at 59.74 percent. How pathetic it is, shamefully even much lower than the national rate!!! Hence it is a challenge for CARES to make the women and girls to be “LITERATE” not only simply on how to read but to have knowledge or literacy on all life basics as of men to have better plan, discerning power, independent thinking/volition to change their “fate” towards development and empowerment.
In India, less than 46% of women own and use a mobile phone, according to the fourth NFHS dated 2015-16. This has had the effect of limiting independence for many women, as well as access to opportunities, and the problem is worse when the data is examined more closely. In urbanized centers, 62% of women use their own handsets, but in rural regions the figure is under 37%. In Andhra Pradesh only 29.4 women have access to mobile phones!! It is the data of Mobile Phone which is an urgent and inevitable one for especially women which even help them to save their lives from attackers, eve-teasers, help in night and many, but even it is also not available to them! Then HOW can we claim women’s security!! And mostly think about other ICT areas! It may not go beyond 15%!!!
And in other areas reservation, bank account, redressel mechanism reaches out, freedom, internet use, social media accounts/profiles, personal savings and such many basics, women are so backward that only men can have accesses, it is considered often women are not “allowed” if then, they will ‘ruin “their life, children, family and men’s too! When Men do these all, nothing will happen!! Thus CARES run Literacy Animation Centers in evenings and other day times too, reaching many rural women and girls.
As the situation is so, CARES has dreams on to open for at least 4 years over at least each Mandal Headquarters for such Exclusive Animation Centers so that make a women phalanx equipped with knowledge, capacity, informed and shared throwing away all chains coming out from the dungeon of ignorance and illiteracy equal as of or more than men climbing the first rung of the development ladder. We are committed for the same, if they run for 4 to 5 years no girl or women will be left without knowledge and literacy as the girl children will be sent to school and all the women who are illiterates and ignorant will be made literates.
Our so far achievements:
  • Awareness creation for more than 4250 women and girls (General knowledge creation on life basics of ICT)
  • Run 10 Exclusive Literacy Animation Centers
  • 312 women and girls have been taught, trained and provided advanced skills on ICT through 10 Centers for period of one year duration
  • Up-scaled the Literacy Initiatives to 20 more areas of two districts; Guntur and Nellore
  • This year there are 625 women and girls learn “Literacy)
  • Each center gives chance for 30 learners only at a time for a duration of 10 to 12 months on all days; except on Sundays mainly evening.
